That was a passionate, if a bit pitchy, final scene. Matilla became sharp at the end but I thought she sang the scene splendidly, especially that little “arietta” she sings to Onegin when he first comes on.
Hampson was good but somewhat hoarse on top.
Kashania (it seems we are the only onegin lovers on here tonight)
My observations:
1. That prompter thing was weird.
2. Hampson was hoarse and not a beautiful line. I miss Dmitri.
3. Beczala is the tenor we have been waiting for.
4. HOLY CRAP! they gave beczala such a huge ovation after Kuda. and then at the END…wow it was amazing. Hampson got virtually nothing – it was just the standard clapping.
I am super excited for Beczala.
5. I love Mattila but I think that her performances must be SEEN and experienced, not just listened to.
I have to admit that, while I thought that Beczala was very good, he didn’t blow me away.
I never thought about it until just now — but I have what must be a Pavlovian reaction to Lensky’s aria. No matter who is singing, how well or how badly, I say to myself “Oh good, it’s not Richard Tucker” and I relax and enjoy it.
Sweet Sanford – that would be a beautiful end to a tragic story to be sure
I can hear the beautiful Anna’s gorgeous tones ringing out already 
Onegin is a mixed bag for me- absolutely detest Lensky’s aria but Tatty’s letter scene is one of my all time fav’s.
