Extended clips of the La Scala Don Carlo as telecast on Sunday night — after the jump.

And here’s the full set of curtain calls. La Cieca of course has repeatedly said she does not approve of the insertion of children into curtain calls in an attempt to cow the audience into polite applause.

harteros is a flash in the vocal pan with no butter. PLEASE send all musical requests and complaints to her agent on thee pages, Feldmarschallin. She was awful, come on.

Rude dismissal, Omerta. Reports here suggest her Violetta was variable. All I’m going on, like Regina, is the Amelia in the London Boccanegra, which I thought was poised, perfect and also (not all agree, I know Cocky doesn’t) very moving. Agreed, she wouldn’t be singing the really heavy stuff.

But Urmana seems to be joining top and chest together better these days, and I thought her performance in the Proms Verdi Requiem the best account of the Libera Me I’ve heard since flash-in-the-pan Susan Dunn.

It appears that the Don Carlo Opening night at La Scala was desastrous!

Going to the Otello here in Rome tonight. Just wondering Gianni (RE #19) and Isepo (RE #20) if you are basing your comments on having heard her during the Rome performances?

And for those interested, Pieczonka proved just how much she is NOT a Verdi soprano at the Collegiate Requiem the other night – obviously not comfortable with the high lying Italiante quality, really walking a tightrope the whole show, and as she had cancelled the dress rehearsal, this lead to Callegari (no great shakes either) canceling the other soloists at the dress as well. Blythe was fine, Vargas less impressive than expected, Anger so-so with a covered top and solid lows, not a lot of interpretative quality there. Overall, a flat night, although my friend enjoyed it.
