La Cieca was just tipped that leather-loving tunesmith David Del Tredici is journeying below the belt once more, offering the premiere of his song cycle “My Favorite Penis Poems” at Symphony Space on December 4. Soprano Melissa Fogarty will sing the composer’s “frank, erotic, and bawdy” setting of explicit poems from from Rumi to Allen Ginsberg.
Well, it’s about time. Just the other night I was thinking that there was an eerie dearth of penis poems. Time to exhale.
An old, old, old, old, old friend once saw Del Tredici at some concert event with his boyfriend in tow. And I mean that literally: dog collar and leash.
Miss Kitty: Surely you haven’t forgotten “O liebliche Wangen?”
‘Frank, erotic and bawdy’ sounds dreadfully unsubtle. I take it there will be no penissimos.
Wow, that sounds really fierce. For 1992.
Well at least Del Tredici finally got off his Alice in Wonderland stick! He had so many fucking pieces about Alice – Finale Alice . . . Ultimate Alice, Das ist Alice!
BTW, is DDT still cute? He was kind of a doll back in the 80s.
Lovely, but why a soprano? Wouldn’t it be more, uhm, fitting, if a baritone would extoll the phallic virtues?
How about DDT’s ‘Alice doesn’t live here anymore?’?

“Hi, I’m Troy McClure. You may remember me from such safety films as ‘Alice’s Adventures through the Windshield Glass’ and ‘Alice Doesn’t Live Anymore.’”
