wedding march
In this, as in so many things, La Cieca follows the lead of friendly firebrand Maury D’Annato. Your doyenne calls on you, cher public, to help defeat California’s Proposition 8, a measure that, according to some legal scholars, could nullify thousands of existing marriages. Even in a best-case scenario, this measure would rob same-sex couples of the right to marriage. Please click on the banner below and, if you can, give generously to the Keep Marriage Legal cause.

This seems a reasonable spot to post this notice.
I have just been exposed for the first time to an opera called The Devil and George Bush. You can hear it for free at http://www.devilandgeorgebush.com
It was apparently conceived to be downloaded and listened to on an mp3 player or Ipod type device, but for now you can listen to it for free.
Some of the music is not conventionally operatic, there is rap and other sound effects. It is possibly more akin to Jerry Springer: The Opera.
Anyway, check it out!

You among your fellow California Democrats
are “leading the charge” in support of the proposition (and don’t try and say you haven’t tipped your hand in what you’ve said and how you say it), but frankly you don’t care that much?
and you’re accusing others of being disingenuous?
in your own words..”better luck next time”
Just curious here, as a PFLAG little old lady: Is this for most regular posters some kind of non-issue that it has generated so little discussion? Are most of you busy putting your money where your mouth usually is…well…you know what I mean…
Well, there are other fora for political discussions, even gay-related ones. Just because we don’t bring it up here doesn’t mean we don’t talk about it elsewhere.
Point taken…
Aaron, Sen. Obama is strongly opposed to Prop. 8. In fact, he’s made an ad, together with Magic Johnson, to speak out against Prop. 8.
You can go here

to see the anti-Prop. 8 ad by Sen Obama.
I’m not aware of any “prominent liberals” in California supporting Prop. 8. I can’t imagine whom you might be thinking about.
As for Prop. 8, “a product of the religious right” it is. Better luck next time.
Oh, and Aaron? If you’re interested in religious matters, you might appreciate this video, a scripturally-based ad against Prop. 8:

Religious and religious right are kind of like opera and soap opera…y’know, not the same thing.
i think aaron owes us all a little more elaboration on precisely how 8 is not a product of the religious right …
whatever, you’re not going to hear from Aaron. I think he was just a hate-filled and disingenuous troll taking his little walk on the wild side.
Obama is against Prop. 8, but he opposes gay marriage.
from The New York Times:
“IF ELECTED …
Hopefuls Differ as They Reject Gay Marriage”
“Several gay friends and wealthy gay donors to Senator Barack Obama have asked him over the years why, as a matter of logic and fairness, he opposes same-sex marriage even though he has condemned old miscegenation laws that would have barred his black father from marrying his white mother.
“The difference, Mr. Obama has told them, is religion.
“As a Christian — he is a member of the United Church of Christ — Mr. Obama believes that marriage is a sacred union, a blessing from God, and one that is intended for a man and a woman exclusively, according to these supporters and Obama campaign advisers. While he does not favor laws that ban same-sex marriage, and has said he is “open to the possibility†that his views may be “misguided,†he does not support it and is not inclined to fight for it, his advisers say.
“Senator John McCain also opposes same-sex marriage, but unlike Mr. Obama’s, his position is influenced by generational and cultural experiences rather than a religious conviction, McCain advisers say.
“But Mr. McCain, reflecting his strongly held views on federalism, has also broken with many Republican senators and joined Mr. Obama and most Democrats to oppose amending the United States Constitution to ban same-sex marriage, arguing that the issue should be left to the states to decide.”
