As the arts organisation with the biggest operating budget in North America, I would hope that their fundraising matches up. Well done!
That’s the funniest picture ever.
And Gelb looks downright decent in it.
That’s a lot of money.
I think he looks ugly…for a house that prefers looks over talent, you’d think they get a more handsome corporate douchebag…
I agree with Kashania — good for them.
Congratulation, to Gelb-and The MET–at least for 2007…
I wonder what (shuddering at the the dire situation now) the numbers will show for 2008–and the foreseeable years , ahead…?
Dont worry Bpunk… the 2008 reports will reflect the income from the proceeds from the sale of “La Voce”… its all good…
Good for them. Where was NYCO on that list? Did they even make the list? Speaking of “douchebags.” Any Mortier news lately?
High C..
If a bottle of scent keeps em afloat–who cares how stinky it might really be—lol!
Maybe someone can unearth some of Bubbles DNA, and do the same for NYCO?
Good news about the Met’s funds raising, and we also should remember the increase in their endowment — what is it now, almost $400-million?
Correct me if I am wrong.
The Met is very much a high end retailer, and it always will be. That is why the dear old New York City Opera was founded many decades ago by a bunch of civic-minded men in Manhatten to be a Volksopera — the people’s opera, where, I vividly recall, one could hear Cav/Pag for $3 a seat. I guess the Met does a little bit of that, out of their munificence. But a healthy and modestly managed — and I mean non-society managed — NYCO would be a very good thing for the profession and for the NY community. I am by no means sanguine that Chief Squaw Susan Baker, and Main Man Mortier are the ones to do it. Check back in five years. I don’t want to see the NYCO be a mini-Met. It needs to be entirely different, and frankly, located out of Lincoln Center – I want to see blue jeans, no neckties, no limos and lots of latte at intermission.
