Like Sanford I was looking forward to more French Grand but as always La Cieca gives us another treasure. So we laud and magnify her name … oh sorry that’s the Litany of the Blessed Virgin. And Blessed she may be but Virgin… well… ctrl+alt+delete.
Lohengrin is an extremely logical continuation of the French Grand Opera festival, since Wagner came straight out of that tradition. Lohengrin still owes rather a lot to the likes of Meyerbeer and Auber.
