got a regie in your pocket

Our previous Regie quiz depicted (as Nerva Nelli so quickly guessed) Verdi’s Aida, in a production by Christopher Alden for the Deutsche Oper Berlin.

And now, cher public, our weekly edition of Name that Regie. Remember, if you have seen the production or otherwise recognize the photos, please remain silent while others guess the answer!

    This reaks of La Boheme

  • not telling says:

Pictures two and three give me a real Jenufa vibe.

  • PushedUpMezzo says:

    Carmen
Pic 1 is one of the cigarillo girls selling her wares
Pic 2 is Carmen dancing with male gypsies
Pic 3 is obviously Escamillo outside the corrugated iron London Olympic stadium

  • FlorezFan says:

The first 2 pics scream “Ariadne.”

But the 3rd one is a bit tricky; the “man” being hoisted up could be the Composer; or it may really be a man. Too bad we can’t see him/her more clearly.

    I’ll go for La Somnambula

  • Melot's Younger Brother says:

It must be something Handelian, updated so that the unwashed masses who flock to German opera houses “get it.”

Oh, why is Renee the only one who wears a powdered wig these days…

  • pavel says:

The third pic makes me think of Die Meistersinger. And love the hand placement of the guy in sunglasses…

  • danpatter says:

I’m going with Flittermouse. Or maybe Giordano’s Siberia?

  • manou says:

Manon – only because second picture could be “Je marche sur tous les chemins…”
