And the gold medal for rushing the beat goes to….

O.K, now that I have that out of the way, this made my day. Gawd I love that woman.

  • Rinaldo says:

Christa Ludwig is, as the kids say, made of awesome. And I’m relieved to recall that I appreciated her properly through her career — every time I saw or heard her, I thought “Isn’t she wonderful!” As she is here.

And a moment for proper appreciation of Lenny too. For all that one can say against him… when he was on, as he was when composing CANDIDE, he turned out one inspired number after another. They may sound easy and obvious till you try to write one yourself.

    Thank you, La C.

Christa can’t do wrong. She was having so much fun in this clip and she looked and sounded great. It was also nice to see Lenny in the audience, clearly relishing it.

On my first trip to the Met, i saw The Tales of Hoffmann, and i could have sworn that Ms. Ludwig was in the audience… being the novice opera queen, rather than embarrass myself (like i now do) i asked several people in the expensive seats around me and no one could tell me…

it was fun watching that, knowing she was enjoying it herself…

  • wenarto says:

dear High C’s, you should just came to her and asked for autograph. Leonie Rysanek once sat next to me during the entire Siegfried, while she was Siegliende the day before. As an opera King, of course I bothered her to no end. Luckily for me that miss Rysanek had a great sense of humor. She said “perhaps you should be Siegliende instead of her on the next performance” – whoah, I wish she could see my Siegliende now on YouTube.

again, viva la divina Christa Ludwig.

  • Alice Roberts says:

Exactly, viva la divina Christa Ludwig.

  • Sam says:

OH MY GOD THAT IS SO COOL! I just came home from first Glyndebourne experience and it just got totally schmeered by that 4 minute video!!!

  • ruxton says:

there is only one “la Divina”- the rest is heresy!

  • BabFab says:

So much fun. She must have been great in comedic roles.
