smokin’!

Erogenous Erwin Schrott is the subject of a newly-launched Decca artist site publicizing his new CD, due for release July 22. And speaking of twins, did La Cieca mention that Mr. Schrott was separated at birth from Jonathan Rhys-Meyers?

Though, of course, the always independent OperaChic has her own ideas of who’s the Doppelgänger.

    Idiomatic?

    Or do you mean idiosyncratic?

  • Constantine A. Papas says:

Idiomatic is correct: a characteristic mode of expression in art or music (Oxford American Dictionary). Idiosyncratic is pertaning to pesonality traits, bahavior or attitude. Both are Greek-based words: Idioma and indiosyncrasy. BTW, I’m a Greek opera lover, if you cannot guess from my name!

isnt it what makes performances live when something new is created every time on stage? obviously one needs to stick to a certain base with the staging to let singers work together? in a way i like it when they get carried away and play things differently from how it was rehearsed, as long as its not completely off the mark. if not performances can easily become run of the mill…

there is an anecdote of behrens rehearsing salome with rysanek as herodias (i think it was salome) where they fired each other off during the dress rehearsal … but afterwards leonie said to hildy: ‘but please don’t rely on me doing exactly the same at each performance, i might just feel like doing something completely different then’ hildy liked that attitude very much as it kept her more alert as a singer as it prevents performers from just going through the motions…

i reckon it all has its pros and cons!
