No. 34, are you really under the impression that La Cieca is the one who keeps bringing the subject of RenÃ©e up? Where do you live?

We are assaulted with “how RenÃ©e looks,” “what RenÃ©e wears,” “how RenÃ©e smells” with such unrelenting regularity that it would be a dereliction of duty on the part of our Doyenne (something quite impossible to imagine) not to react to it here in the Opera Zine of Record.

We are all free to skip threads we don’t find to be to our taste, you know. Just as I skip her performances. But she is thrust before us whatever we may wish were the case.

Jussi & Arepo, since we are all being naughty children here, let me recommend Renee’s new DVD Arabella (which our hostess is herself advertising here). Whether you like the modern production or not–and I have some reservations–her singing is truly glorious, most especially in the final scene. With all respect Jussi, if you can’t understand her words here, I’d say the problem is yours rather than hers. The DVD also introduces (to me at least) a terrific young voice, Julie Kleiter, who sings Zdenka wonderfully. Enjoy, just don’t tell anyone I told you!!

I sang Tiridate (the bad guy) in Radamisto in the early 80s in Chicago. We did it in repertory with Mikado, in which I sang Pooh-bah. Okay, even seeing Mikado and Handel in the same sentence gives me a headache, but we did it.

And according to the article that was sent to me by High C’s (thank you), Renee thinks that people will smell the scent and say “Hmm, what else does she do?”. I’m thinking the answer to that question is sniff coke, cuz she must be high if she thinks that.
