Nothing’s changed since Callas. People quacked on about her weight loss ruining her voice as well. It strikes me that ruxton is absolutely right. Unless someone can definitively prove that any vocal decline is the result of the surgery, then anything else is just distasteful speculation.
Well, Tony Tomassini has taken the opportunity to devote YET ANOTHER NEW YORK TIMES column to the black dress affair, and as the Schleppträgerin tells Klytemnestra,
“Ein jedes Wort ist Falschheit”
which I suggest as a future tag to anything Cieca posts involving Tony T. Sample:
“Though Ms. Voigt’s position as one of today’s leading dramatic sopranos is as solid as ever, there have been varied reactions to her singing since her surgery, especially the colorings of her voice. Some opera buffs and critics detect a slight loss of warmth in her sound. Others counter that her voice has gained brightness and shimmer.”
How lucky Ms. Voigt was to have been in that Boston ARIADNE, and thus to be part of Tony T’s mythical
pantheon!
Of course we’ve all seen this clip before but it is a hoot and worth viewing again.
