If I may be allowed one serious question:
Is this the authentic Paris version of the opera, or is it the usual cafeteria version with music picked an random from other versions? Also, did M. Florez sing his arias in key or did the follow M. Alagna’s example and use any key that was comfortable?
Has anyone seen the costumes? How long (or short) was M. Florez’s toga?
jimupde….I havd not listened to this yet, but I can only assume he declined to sing the baritone version that M. Alagna trotted out (as though it were perfectly normal for a tenor his age to be lowering parts already). One hopes that UNLIKE A*BLAH*gna, Florez will continue (ine the tradition of fine singers like Kraus) to sing very well in the fach that fits his voice for many many years to come, instead of regaling us with bellowed Manricos, flat and cracked Radames’, and various and sundry other roles that have spoiled Alagna’s once fine instrument.
Then again, if he follows Alagna’s lead and marries a stupid, great in her own mind dive like Alagna did, there may be no hope for him.
I am listening now. I’m not sure if it is the authentic Paris version, but I can tell you this…It’s certainly not the baritone version. In fact, most mortal tenor could not handle the high tessitura that Orfeo sings in this version. Not even M. Alagna before he started abusing his once beautiful voice. It’s amazing!!!!
I’m in the middle of watching (and enjoying) the DVD of Fille from Genoa with the ever-puppylicious JDF and Patrizia Ciofi. But not all the puppyliciousness is on stage! How about the yummy, boyish, tête-de-peau conductor Riccardo Frizzi?!
