Cher public, you are simply getting too clever for this poor old simple-minded doyenne. With only two photos to guide you, so many of you deduced that the opera was Wagner’s Siegfried, in the new production by Sven-Eric Bechtolf for Vienna.

And so, our next quiz will be limited to only one photo.  Should you not be able to guess agree on the opera, La Cieca will oblige with additional images — though, given the demonstrated intelligence level of the regulars here, further clues will almost certainly not be necessary only add to the fun!

oh Lord. That’s “subway”. Typing with a Gin and Tonic in your hand is just not the same as on an Underwood

Before I found out which production this was, I was still able to read “Les Contes d’Hoffmann” into the second picture. A bit crass, perhaps, but Giulietta was a deputy at the Bundestag (= eine Hure).

But now the the cat is out of the bag, check it out –

Sanford – thanks again. While I found the album on operashare today, all the links have expired. Bummer! Your upload was all the more welcome.

I’ve been thinking along the same lines as Figliaimpura. Last night, as PBS ran the Mattila “Manon Lescaut,” I wondered if the costumes could be any uglier.

New contest: Name this tired, old production?

I was going to guess The Merry Widow relocated to post-wall Berlin

Il Guarany, all of the Moffo Verdi and French Arias have been posted to Youtube. I found them on vinyl on Ebay and my brother-in-law converted them to digital for me. BTW, I used to sing (or attempt to) the baritone aria from your eponymous opera. To paraphrase FamousQuickly, I couldn’t sing that aria tomorrow: it’s a question of color and especially tessitura (too high).

The eyes represent CBS, and the top hat crew are the Tiffany Network news department–so the opera must be Die Tote Couric.

Bad German spelling. It should be “Todte” not Tote.
