Thackeray, unfortunately I did miss them. The only one I was aware of was 2007, and it sold out long before I managed to get a look-in. I somehow took against the Wigmore Hall, having gone regularly whilst a student (1997 – 2000). I did get a little sick of halving the average age of the audience by virtue of my sole presence alone.

Miriam Murphy, I believe, used to study with the same singing teacher as me. Huge voice.

My Aida is with Nilsson and Corelli. Bought it the day after my first ever visit to the ROH at the tender age of, I think, 16.

Cocky, I must be 20 years old than you, but I still feel like a junior at the Wigmore. Still, it’s the only concert hall in London I find satisfying to visit on a regular basis.

are you two aware that her paris chatelet recital is available on DVD? it’s the same program she performed at wigmore 2001, alice tully hall 2002 and, i believe, minneapolis. it’s a great program and she’s in great voice.

The Chatelet DVD is indeed a pleasure. She was in marginally better voice in Paris than in London where, as she informed the audience: “I am still recovering from a bronchitis”. Love her indefinite article there.

  • Cocky Kurwenal says:

Divas have a syntax all of their own. It really is gloriously self important. Grace’s bronchitis is a different one from ours, you see. Love it.
