runaway regie

It took sharp-eyed reader Weill Fan less than eight hours to recognize our most recent Regie puzzler. The correct answer was (of course) Ariadne auf Naxos.  Additional kudos are due to Weill Fan for pinpointing exactly the characters and situations depicted in all three photos. So, will he (she?) be able to name this week’s mystery opera using only the photos below? (Again, cher public, if you recognize the show, stumm!)

Since it probably isn’t Donizetti’s Imelda de’ Lambertazzi – great opera, by the way: see La Cieca’s Necessary Luxuries – or Sondheim’s Sunday in the Park with George and it looks like it could be Siegfried, I’ll go for Der Freischuetz, with Max and Kaspar in the first photo and Samiel in the second.

La Boheme – both photos from Act 4

    Photo 2 “Vecchia Zimara”

The tall person is a woman, not a man, and these characters are Turandot and Calaf during the riddle scene.

This is obviously Lohengrin…first pic…Ortrud going nuts in act 2…second pic…The Knight in shining armor himself as he prepares to depart.
