the strapping soubrette

“Camilla” is presumably “charismatic, vocally robust … uncommonly dashing and cagey” Luca Pisaroni. [NYT]

Luca is on the left, Camilla is on the right, Helene doesn’t feature!

This is awesome. So, all I have to do is have a body like an adonis and a so-so voice and I’ll get raves in the NYTimes? Front page of the arts section, HERE I COME!

I have this Figaro DVD production with different cast (Grant-Murphy) and it is awful, however, have seen Luca on many DVDs and he is just fun fun fun on stage.

    Tony’s at his exercise!

Not only the gushing over hunky Luca P., but “…vividly conducted by Sylvain Cambreling…” (!!!!!) ,plus which he doesn’t seem to have been in France often enough to know that ” uncommonly vigorous rhythmic clapping” is near-ubiquitous after performances there.

In this case, unless they have changed the production severely, I am incredibly surprised that there was “uncommonly vigorous rhythmic clapping.” The last time they did this production, it was mostly boos and whistles. Although the cast did get a nice ovation. But the audience was pissed off, especially at Cambreling (who was such a coward he never came out to bow).
Glad to hear this extra-muros set of performances is going over smoothly. I am just amused at the fact that the Paris Opera has two houses in which to perform, but they felt it necessary to perform this piece at a third theater in the Paris area…

Actually, Pisaroni is a very good singer but the heavy breathing that Tommassini does over him is a bit much. As always.

You can check out YouTube for some extended clips of Pisaroni in another updated Figaro, this one in an auto showroom: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7dkPLplx3tc

I find it amusing….slightly…that the Queens on this list who drool over anything in pants…and feel competant to offer fashion tips to female artists, as well, begrudge Tony T for his occassional comments on the attractiveness of a male singer.

Mr Tommassini, a bona-fide musical scholar, AND a Gay man, should be allowed to express the physical attractiveness of a male performer, NU?…isn’t this one of the things that we as gay men used to fight FOR??

And the Mortier butt-kissing continues..in today’s installment of Tony T.’s love letters to Gerard in the TIMES he refers to his newly beloved as someone who “has faith in his audiences” unlike his “timid counterparts”. But our Tony makes a tremendous faux pas when he suggests Gerard might have paired PRIGGIONIERO with SUOR ANGELICA…oops..does Tony not know that his new crush abhors PUCCINI and has made it perfectly clear that no PUCCINI or verismo will sully the doorstep of HIS City Opera??
