who to whom

Cher public, in response to a request from Nerva Nelli, La Cieca has added a new feature to the parterre.com main page; or rather she’s improved upon an old feature. You may remember the excerpts from your comments used to appear above the logo at the top of the page.

The new format will display the most recent comments directly below the top posting; that is, the second post on the main page will always be a list of the most recent comments.  You will find a list of excerpts from the most recent comments (with links to the complete comment) in the left menu bar. That way you dear people can easily catch up with (and continue) your ongoing conversation, colloquies and catfights. (The comments block right under the top story was very clunky-looking, La Cieca decided. It is possible to display more comment excerpts in the sidebar or to include more of each comment. Those of you who follow comments avidly may want to subscribe to the comments rss feed for parterre.com.

I liked it better before, not that I think it matters much. Sorry to seem negative.

  • Cherubino says:

There are evidently two Cherubini here. This one likes the new format.

  • BelCantoDiva says:

I liked it the way it was before. Just my 2 cents.

  • schweig und tanze says:

I have to agree with BCD and the first Cherubino. Sorry, LaC, and thanks for all the work you do on this site. I would be lost without it. :)

If you have Parterre Box on RSS feed (for mainlining purposes) you do not get any comments at all and have to return to the main page. Directly below the top posting seems a bit klutzy, too. I would vote for a return to the status quo ante – or could we have both in a Solomon-like compromise?

….oops – sorry! Just found the Latest Comments lurking under the Submit Comment box. Ignore me!!!

  • manou says:

I have made amends by donating a small amount to the site as a fine for making a silly post – others please copy!

  • Occhiali d'oro says:

Che barihunk e testa di pelle! http://www.marcodifelice.it/foto.html

Sounds good too (there are a couple of videos on his site)

How about a dedicated place on the site for off-thread comments such as this?

  • La Cieca says:

Well, let’s see. I’m not so crazy about the comments at the top of the site because they are not explicitly identified as comments and because the more stuff there is in the header, the lower the main content gets pushed — if there’s an image or a poll or whatever, it’s not always visible if it’s pushed down the page.

In the next day or two, I’ll experiement with setting up a “Latest Comments” section in the left sidebar. There’s plenty of room over there and I don’t know that much of anyone uses the Tag Cloud anyway.

  • Sanford says:

I actually miss the email notifications, because I didn’t have to go back to search for older responses. On the RSS feed, as new comments get posted, others drop off, and if I don’t get to check often enough, I miss some comments.
