  • ianw2: Well, let’s face it, when you’re hiring an American classical musician its Renee or Yo-Yo. 11:08 PM
  • Bosah: By the way, here is the website for the Young Arts foundation, which is producing the series on HBO:... 10:53 PM

are you ready to regie?

Lots of interesting guesses, but the previous Regiequiz seems to have stumped our panel. The opera depicted is one that has become something of a favorite of revisionist directors, La Juive. You can see some of the more interesting bits of the staging in context in this video from the Staatsoper Stuttgart:

And now on with the game. Can you name this opera?

Without reading the other comments, has to be Salome.

I still think this is Dialogue of the Carmelites: the first picture is the death of the old Prioress (wearing the crown) with Blanche and Mother Marie; the second picture is Blanche’s father and brother awaiting her entrance, and the final picture is the death of the Carmelites by being pushed out of a big window. Why can’t anyone see this?

This production looks beautiful. I’d love to see a Magic Flute or a Frau done in this style.

I regret to say I like the Rheingold guess better than mine. They look like they are going off to valhalla at the end. If it’s no longer a guess, that’s regrettable.

Probably some German taken on Suor Angelica in which some of the nuns were replaced by monks.

Clearly Das Rheingold Cieca. che bellezza – hmmmmm
