rip-roaring regie: the answer

(If you haven’t had your turn guessing at this week’s Regiequiz, go here.)

Brava, Olivia (among others), who guessed the answer to this week’s video Regiequiz. Let’s take a look at the video with the original sound and subtitles restored:

That’s right, it’s La forza del destino, in a new David Pountney production from Vienna, premiere on March 1, 2008.

And the video is no longer available.

  • La Cieca says:

My error, Sanford. The video should be live now.

  • mafketis says:

And here I thought it was the introduction of the New Prioress in Dialogues.

  • Sanford says:

When I read the current issue of OperaNow, which is from England, I believe, I was surprised by how many of the magazine’s critics criticized regie. With the sound turned off, it could be “The Will Rogers Follies” or “Best Little Whorehouse in Texas”. What do cowgirls have to do with Forza?

  • David Utterback says:

I love Preziosilla’s high note. Is Rataplan mercifully cut from this production? Is it bad to want to hear her sing it?

  • MP says:

Mafketis’ comment is hilarious, still laughing here. I was hoping it would turn out to be Butterfly’s entrance.

  • Lena Geyer says:

I am delighted to see that someone found another use for the Neil Shicoff Ramp from the Met’s bizarre “Trovatore” of recent years.
    Waste not…very “Green” of them.

  • Tenorguy says:

Lord knows I’ve always wanted to hear Rataplan played on some bodacious lady’s booty. Baby got Back, but apprently not much of a top.

Good Lord, when will it ever end?

I think it’s fabulous that the Kilgore College Rangerettes have expanded their repetoire to include Verdi, but I think their talents are sadly underutilized in this production …

    It’s a sign of the End-Time.
