Regie, a drop of golden sun

Our previous Regie quiz didn’t stump many of you: the opera was Der Fliegende Holländer in productions by Calixto Bieito (doghouse), Peter Konwitschny (spinning class) and Christopher Alden (corpse bride).

And now, what might this opera be?

My first thought was Rosenkavalier but someone said Manon Lescaut and I really love that one!

    It’s Skidoo — again — of course.

Finally La Cieca provides a preview of Rufus Wainwright’s highly anticipated (and top secret) Met debut piece in which he pays open homage to the one singer who influenced him more than even Judy — Harry Nilsson.

Kristen Chenowith plays Carol Channing and comprimario supremo Spiro Malas returns to the Met stage as the gangster named God.

And the person with the gun? That’s actually a person with a gun demanding Chenowith take off her body mike and sing like a man! Onward Kristen soldiers!

The comments are always more fun than the answer. I, too, think it is some version or other of Falstaff, though I don’t know which one. Though, I must say it is a sadly attractive and pitiful Falstaff. The producer thinks the girls are bitches.

  • Federica says:

It is indeed Falstaff…I even know the director, though I am not a huge fan of his work…

  • Baritenor says:

    “Baritenor purred”?

    I don’t purr.

  • MP says:

Oh, what the heck: Giulio Cesare??

  • Famous Quickly says:

“I could sing Alice Ford tomorrow. It’s a question of color and tessitura.”

  • Baryton francais says:

Baritenor also “squeeks.” That’s more fitting if you’re truly a baritenor! lol. All in good fun of course. Lord knows what it will state for this post…

BTW, if the reference is being made between Falstaff and some sort of Simpson’s theme, perhaps the pants-role version of Quickly is one of the Bouvier sister? I’m missing the blue hair though if Alice is supposed to be Marge or something… I think Falstaff is supposed to be a plump Moe or something… he’s always had the hots for Marge…

I think it’s more likely that it’s Cosi though, due to the pants role. I’m sure we’ll all find out in good time…

Good thing I whispered that last post, because boy does it read like 2nd grade English! Yikes!
