Frau Blücher lässt grüßen
What is that? italian? I guess hwat Silja doesn’t hav is a talent for language… actually the letter reminds me more of Mary Lynn in Traviata
I think it’s great, thanks for posting it La Cieca. Nothing much wrong with Silja’s Italian, and I’m astonished she only sang the role in Munich and Brussels, as it should have been heard in other major houses in the late 1960s and in the 1970s and 1980s.
With the best will in the world, the spoken Italian is really quite poor. But who cares when the aria is sung with such bite and commitment, and acted so whole-heartedly? I’d love to hear what the ‘opera is voice and voice only’ brigade think of this.
She almost hits the high note at 1:43.
What’s with the little people cavorting about?
Was she about to give a pole dance?
I agree with y’all, she should have received more offers to do this role. Besides Dimitrova, Bumbry and Verret, there were not a lot of people who could sing the role like this at this time.
What a shame, yet we should be thankful that this video exists, even in the horrid production.
Why was this awful video profiled by La Cieca? What exactly is redeemable in it? The woman is FLAT throughout. This is commitment? And is that a Hungarian hybrid she’s singing in? Reminds me of Mattila in that you can NEVER understand ONE word be it German or Italian or French, never mind Finn of course. But this garbage is what passes for greatness today.
‘I’d love to hear what the ‘opera is voice and voice only’ brigade think of this.’
Well, that’s that question answered.
She’s not flat throughout, by the way.
