More years ago than La Cieca would care to say, dear Gertie Dammerung wrote an hilarious parody of the song “Lydia the Tattooed Lady” which La Cieca published in the dimly-remembered print version of parterre box. Time passes. Then, only yesterday, La Cieca received an email from equally dear Hans Lick enclosing an updated version of the lyrics. Never one to leave well enough alone, your doyenne contributed a tweak or two, and so… well, as they say, a song is not a song until you sing it. And sing it you may, right after the jump.

The original Lydia is something of a party number for me, but now I might just replace it with this version! Bravo, Hans Lick, even if your meter is a little off at some points. I love the Cox and Box reference.
I’m not sure why you changed “Troyanos” (my version) to “Netrebko” — she doesn’t sing any trouser roles so far as I am aware….

Hans, you are of course correct. What we need, though, is a current trouser mezzo with the correctly-metered name. Suggestion?
If you drop the Di, Donato fits the Troyanos meter.

I was not reading the site back when the original version was posted. La Cieca, could you find it in your heart to re-post the Gertie Dammerung Lyrics?
Funny, I had figured that Netrebko was “in somebody’s britches” in another sense altogether. Trouser roles never occurred to me.
You had to drop Troyanos, how cruel. Her life and career were too short.
One cavil:
The Earl of Harewood’s title, despite its spelling, is pronounced HAHR-wood and thus doesn’t rhyme with “share would.”
