Legends!

"Starring Leona Mitchell (star of the Metropolitan Opera and other major opera houses around the world) and Sarah Rice (the original Johanna in SWEENEY TODD on Broadway), Leona & Sarah, Songs for the Heart & Soul. These two friends join their thrilling voices in an evening of songs, melodie, chanson and an aria or two, with a little gospel/inspirational thrown in for good measure, to uplift the heart and warm the winter-weary spirit. Come be transported and bask in the musical sunshine!

"BCD concerts have been called 'Life-affirming', 'show-stopping', 'Like Babette's feast for the ear' by reviewers and audience members lucky enough to have seen our previous performances. Don't miss out on this heartbreakingly beautiful and thrilling concert."

Where DO good divas go when they die? Okay, good divas aside, where does Leona go? The Metropolitan Room? Absurd. I heard Lorinda Lisitza there, singing "Yolanda at the Bottom of the Stairs" -- now SHE's a DIVA!

underneath LEONA MITCHELL, it says - MUSIC CAMP.

"CAMP" - that about sums it up, doesn't it?

Hey, why don't you go and hear for yourself?

I heard Leona and Sarah in concert last spring in Troy, New York. Leona is sounding better than ever and is in glorious voice. Both she and Sarah are beautiful artists with gorgeous voices.

She didn't go away to die, she went away to take care of her ill parents who needed her, because she is a loving person and her family matters to her.

That camp is her good deed in the world to do something wonderful for kids who wouldn't otherwise have the opportunity to be exposed to the world of music, kids who would be too poor otherwise to be able to experience something that gives them hope. I don't understand your need to be so mean-spirited.

This is a woman who is at the height of her talents, right now. I've heard her in live performance recently. Why are you hating on someone who has had a career that is about as good as it gets?

How many times have you sung a leading role at the Met or on Broadway?

Happy holidays.

Leona, Sharon (Sweet) and Alessandra (Marc) should do a comeback concert together -- (although i hear Marc never really retired).

Sorry- gotta put in a vote for Leona. As far as I'm concerned she rocks and I wish there were more like her - certainly among the current crop. There are few who are as committed as she is when she is onstage. She can come back here anytime.

Also would like to wish everyone a great Christmas and a wonderful, safe New Year. Thanks for putting up with me for another year.

Isola Jones performed as recently as two years ago, as Carmen at the Arizona Opera. According to this review I find, she still sounds good. Obviously the Arizona Opera is not the Met, but at least she's still singing, and apparently singing well.

Oh yes - I'm sure that now, YEARS after she huffed, puffed, splatted, and omitted notes in various roles at the Met, Mitchell is in glorious voice, has never sounded better, and is ready to sing Electra, Forza, Zerbinetta, and Mama Rose in all of the international houses clamoring for unique quality of stardom.

Which is why, of course, she's doing cabaret gigs with Sarah Rice.

Maybe they can do Norma together somewhere - how about Amato?

Mitchell, despite her idiosyncrasies, sounded gorgeous. I understand her voice has gotten massive and she has sung Turandot in a number of South American cities.

If she performed in an opera in NYC, I would run to get a ticket. We NEED her to fill the horrid vacuum in Verdianas.

I have heard that Leona will be singing some Puccini and Verdi arias in this evening among other things. Sounds pretty exciting to me. She is in terrific voice these days.

Come hear for yourself what she sounds like NOW if you are lucky enough to be near NYC.

balabanov11, you should take a Zantac for all that bile. That acid hurts you more than it is certainly hurting Leona or Sarah.

Leona Mitchell is an opera star and I am really angry after reading some of the opera snobs comments. First, she is approaching 60 years old and I think that after having an international career for over 30 years, she can sing where, what, and with whom she wants. I am always amazed at how opera people can be so critical, and overly judgemental. Everthing is so head oriented in opera, and the heart is left out! This is why there are VERY few new school divas who are even worth listening to. When you go the MET or any other opera house, you don't hear the kind of singing Leona, and many others of her era and before brought to the stage. You people need to understand that Leona Mitchell was annointed by God, not by man.

I was at one of the performances at the Metropolitan Room last week in NYC and Leona sounded as beautiful as she ever did -- maybe even better. Her Vissi d'arte and Pace, pace were better sung and with more passion and far better acting and commitment than most of what you will hear at the Met today. She is in glorious voice- she is fresh and healthy sounding--I am happy to report.

The evening was an eclectic mix of classical, arias. art song and operetta and a little music theater, Leona sang Summertime and a "gospelesque" number from a show with music by JC Johnson. Sarah sang some Poulenc songs, Green Finch and the Rachmaninoff Vocalise. Their voices sounded beautiful together and in their solos. The audience was going crazy with joy and excitement.

I was glad I was there to hear it.
