The blonde leading the blind
Imagine La Cieca's delight when she heard that Julia Roberts has been cast in the starring role of Voce di Donna, a biopic based upon the whirlwind adventures of your very own doyenne.

Oscar-winner Roberts (left) beat out A-listers Nicole Kidman, Susan Sarandon and Dame Judi Dench to portray "Older Cieca." The character in more "youthful" days will be played by Zac Efron. Additional casting for the film includes George Clooney as "Gualtier Malde," Robert Downey Jr. as "Little Stevie" and Jonathan Rhys Meyers as "Maury D'annato."

Brilliant casting! But is there not a cameo role for Mrs John Claggart? Would Harvey Fierstein take on the challenge?
Mrs. Claggart is a plum for any character actress. A pity Anna Magnani is no longer around to play it!
since camille saviola isn't enough of a name to movie-goers, i'm rooting for lainie kazan.
oooooh, can I be Renee? I can leap casting couches in a single bound. Of course, if you need a box office "name", then may I suggest Miss Reba McEntire for the role of Cieca's arch-nemesis?!
I thought Maggie Smith was a shoe-in. She didn't want the part?
Hilarious, my most profound gratitude to the casting department for their gracious blend of myopia and mendacity.
I thought perhaps Christine Baranski would make an affecting "Older Cieca."
perhaps a young charles laughton as gualtier malde.
La Cieca ain't got nothing on these two fellas ...

Richard Simmons as James Levine?
Judi Dench as Eva Marton?
Cameron Diaz as Karita Mattila?
Not that there is anything wrong with it, but what's with all tne naked lady album covers that are at the bottom of the page these days? Hans Hotter seems to be the only one clothed.
ljc: Now, now. Astrid Varnay is very modestly garbed as well. The "naked" covers are for a new set of midprice released on the Opera d'Oro label.
I suppose a nekked Aida might be somewhat historically acurate(if it's not Zinka or LP) and maybe Mimi bareass might explain her character, but Turandot in an evening gown, and military Marie skimpy on a cannon are a little over the top, especially if Napoleon found out. I know; skin sells disks.
