Sediziose voci

Now, you really didn't think La Cieca would let the occasion of Maria Guleghina's first Met Norma go unmarked, did you? Oh, please, don't be ridic, cher public! Surely the ascent of la Guleghina to the summit of bel canto is an experience that must be enjoyed communally. And since La Cieca has no intention of actually being in the theater for this event, she wants to invite you, you and most particulary you to join her for another edition of La Cieca's Opera Chat. The chat room "La Foresta d’Irminsul" will open at 7:15 p.m. on Monday, November 26 for the 7:30 curtain of Norma as broadcast on Sirius. Please check back on parterre.com on Monday for a link to "La Foresta d’Irminsul."

You never know... she may surprise us!
There are portions where she may be very good, esp the final scene of each half..

This performance will not be for anybody with a weak stomach. I will have a pitcher of margaritas ready.

I have heard that Marina Mescheriakova, not Hasmik Papian, is the cover for Guleghina.

Does anyone know if this is true?

Slightly off-topic, I listened to a wonderful Norma from Vienna State Opera with Edita Gruberova as Norma (she sounded fab. almost Caballé-like), Elina Garanca as Adalgisa (Her voice was honey-warm), my fav tenor José Cura as Pollione (he sang well enough, the only one to read the music as the newspapers said he was not really that into the drama. And after listening several times I can hear that detachment)
AKT 1 from Latvia Radio Klasika.
AKT 2 from Latvia Radio Klasika.

Delighted to see we Downunder (Australia) are getting a series of Met "broadcast performances" in selected Cinemas at $25 a seat starting December 29. I believe the first one will be Anna Netrebs' "Romeo & Juilliet". Looking forward to seeing them- will be great to see what you guys have been talking about.

after fighting with that moron Benini, Guleghina will sing the D at the end of act 1 on Monday. At least she'll bring some exciting to the performance and I applaud her effort. I have a feeling she'll be better than most expect.
