That's Edgardo. His singing says it all. Now on stage you would have to really work to make it believable, but that's why we got brains and imagination.

It's a pity that we so often end up remembering some singers by their last years rather than by the extraordinary singing they did during their peak years.

Pure magnificence, around the same vintage as his recording with Sutherland, but this feels more genuine. Probably the more intimate recital setting, and the control on the high B!

What I noticed was the face; in his later concerts, there was always a sort of deer-in-the-headlights, sort of terrified look in his eyes, and always this wash of relief that swept over him after a successful high note. Here...he's just SO focused on what he's doing; it's like he's a thousand miles away, but so completely zeroed in on what he's doing, it's just incredible. What a voice.
