"C’est elle ou moi!"

A Met insider whispers to La Cieca, “Don’t be surprised if there are changes to the current layout of the 2008-2009 season, especially when one soprano, after what she considers a catastrophic rehearsal process, vowed not work with the director again.”

  • Fred says:

According to Met Futures, Zimmerman is supposed to direct Sonnambula w. Dessay. A previous blind item here indicated that there was Trouble in Paradise during the Lucia rehearsals.

But it can’t be that easy, could it?

  • Kashania says:

Based on all the gossip, it seems like it might be that easy.

  • Celtic Goddess says:

It’s more than fair to say that La Fleming’s new fave director will get the boot. When it comes to box office, it’s all about Dessay, not Zimmerman, even in Chicago.

  • Doug says:

it’s interesting … gelb is in print in the chicago tribune yesterday saying

    – Although Zimmerman declines to discuss her future projects for the Met, Gelb doesn’t mind revealing that he has signed the Chicago director to stage a new production of Rossini’s “Armida,” starring soprano Renee Fleming, for the 2009-10 season. The general manager obviously is bullish about Zimmerman and envisions a productive future for her at the Met.

“I don’t know how the public will react to her production, which is different from any previous staging they may be used to,” Gelb says. “But, as far as I’m concerned, Mary is bringing so much to the art form of opera with this ‘Lucia’ that, in my mind, it’s already a hit. If it’s up to me and the Met, she will be creating as many productions here as she wishes to.” –

  • Micaëla says:

“Different from any previous staging I may have seen before?” In what significant way, Mr. Gelb?
