Bobby, come on over for dinner
Roberto Alagna will jump -- no, not into the swimming pool, but rather into the first two performances (September 25 and 29) of the Met's fall revival of Roméo et Juliette, replacing Rolando Villazón who has withdrawn due to illness. The Met's press office officially announced Villazón's cancellation today, though regular parterre.com readers knew all about it last week. The role of Roméo remains TBA for the performances on October 3, 6 and 11; Villazón remains on the roster for the winter stint of performances including the HD simulcast.

I'll be there on the 25th. I actually quite like Alagna's Romeo. Is Vargas available for any of the October performances?
i sure hope not
I'll be there for the Oct 6 performance. Guess I'll have to keep my fingers crossed and hope for a decent tenor.
Old and stale news.
I don't understand how Villazon knows he will be ill for the first two performances but not for the rest of them.
Susan,
Villazon has canceled all 5 Met performances in September and October. Alagna will take over the first two, and the remaining 3 are "TBA." Villazon is scheduled to return in December for several performances including the HD simulcast.

You ignorant slut!!
For those of us who remember the original "Not Ready For Prime Time Players" that was quite funny Anonymous. I must start using that phrase again.
What's a slut have to do with being ignorant? LOL
Alagna's at his best in the French rep. Good for the Met!
there was a great clip of Alagna's Romeo on youtube (well, at least ah, leve toi soleil!), and i agree, kashania, he sure is at his best in the french repertoire
at least he's singing something he can sing for a change, and not radames!!!
Susan-
The line is a reference to an early SNL skit from the first (and best) era of the show. On "Weekend Update" Dan Akroyd and Jane Curtain would do a segment called "Point-Counterpoint", in which Curtain would always begin by takling an issue in the least tactful, most politaclly dogmatic way possible. Akroyd would always then begin his counter-point with the catch-phrase "Jane, you ignorant slut." Even now, it brings a smile to my lips.
I am aware of the several spelling mistakes in the above post, but it is three AM and I don't feel like correcting them.
Now I remember that "ignorant slut" phrase on SNL. That was funny.
Well, call me an ignorant slut again but I just checked my tickets to see Rolando perform at Carnegie Hall and they are for December 10th. I assume he is going to be well by then--I hope.
Dan Akroyd at his funniest. And you had to love Jane Curtin. They were great together.
"Bobby, come on over for dinner" suddenly got me thinking of that other famous singing couple--Mr. Brown and Ms. Houston. Please tell me that the RA-AGh marriage is not like the Bobby and Whitney show.
KISS MA ASS!!
haha, anyone who doesn;t watch "the soup" on E! probabaly won't get it.
I suppose it's more important for the Met to get a 'name' to stand in for the ailing Rolando, they will go for has-been, never-really-was Roberto.
Keep up those sit ups, sweetie.
