Questo popoloso deserto

As if opera weren’t dead enough already, this latest news is sure to finish pounding the stake through its heart. Paris Hilton (strike one!) has been signed for a leading role in the film version of Repo! The Genetic Opera. In this futuristic musical fantasy, La Hilton plays the daughter of organ-transplant tycoon Paul Sorvino (strike two!). The film is directed by Darren Lynn Bousman, best known for helming sequels in the Saw horror series (strike three!) Ms. Hilton, interviewed at an event called “Feed the Models, Save the World,” commented, “I’ve been rehearsing every day—seven hours a day. We’re just in the studio. We’re doing dance and singing. We go shoot next month in Toronto.”

I don’t know if this is funny or truly scary. And I was worried that they were going to bring Jerry Springer: The Opera to Broadway…

Misero pane! A prolugarmi vieni la sconsolata vita. Ma chi guinge? Chi profanare ardisce questo sacro loco? Maledizione! Maledizione! Maledizione! Maledizion! Maledizion!

Plain and utter garbage. And of the lowest sort.

Umm…I must be really out of the loop…I mean, one is bound to fall out of sync with one’s culture when one is travelling and singing all over the place…but wtf is this “Repo: The Generic Opera” to begin with? I’ve never heard of it. Is it actually an opera? And why the flack about Paris Hilton doing a movie that appears to be right up her alley?? I can’t make much sense of the website. Someone please explain!!

There are “generic operas.” Think of the standards that are about 2 girls wanting the guy, or 2 guys wanting the girl. Having the plot be about repoing cars from deadbeats might be interesting, and could go on as long as Meistersinger.

Please, give us more Regine Crespin–or anyone, for that matter–singing crossover (how about Rodgers & Hammerstein?)!!! Rather that than this no-talent dreck.

Okay, someone ask me how really feel ;-)

Made a bad mistake yesterday–if my first post on Paris makes no sense. It is Repo–the Genetic Opera (not Generic), and is supposed to be about a future world in which humans are harvested for their organs (the puns about Paris the H are limitless). But an opera about auto repossesors would be interesting anyway (What’s on Renee’s schedule?)
