La Cieca is startled and delighted to note that there are already some very competitive entries in the “Nine Normas” quiz, including a likely prize winner. So that all you cher public may have the chance to put your vocal identification skills to the test, here’s the clip of The Nine Normas.

Screams, laughs, 1 word, 2 notes … all very well if you have and know the performances. I found I could identify most (but not all) of the Normas even though I only have 2 Norma recordings. This was because the length of the excerpts allowed me to recognise the singers from their style, mannerisms, tone etc. Others may welcome more demanding or more obscure criteria. How about a Liebestod (says he, having done a 7 singer Liebestod for a quiz of his own devising).
How about “Io quella LAMA gli piantai nel cor”?
