Sixteen Candles

Before he was famous, tenor Juan Diego Flórez was already puppylicious. Here at at age 16 he sings a pop song on a 1989 televised music festival. (La Cieca can’t quite make up her mind if he reminds her more of Duckie in Pretty in Pink or Slater from Saved by the Bell.)

Hey with that microphone he can finally be heard over the orchestra…okay on less catty note -

Did anyone catch the performance of Lawrence Brownlee in the Barber at the Met? Good Lord, that kid can sing. It was a wonderful night at the opera last night. Ms. Di Donato was on, as well as the whole cast.

PLUS catching Dawn Upshaw’s Townhall recital on Sunday was a real treat. It was so good to see and hear an artist of her caliber back on the boards again. You can hear the effects of the chemo on the voice, but it was overall a very wonderful recital. She was simply amazing – a true artist.I adore her. Now she Thank God we still have her with us.
