can anyone help? i'm at my library because helena is not one of the scores in my collection. it is OUT! is there an online score (probably not) or an online libretto (maybe) to follow? i should have stayed at home with a libretto from one of the recordings i own. ah well...damrau sounds fab.
This is better than Puritani, is all I can cay!
The opera is going very well today. Damrau is singing beautifully. I'm happy to hear that Debbie is in really good voice. Things seem to be zipping back together, especially through the middle. And the tenor is doing an admirable job. Now Brendel is on, and he sounds miraculous for his age!
The orchestra sounds great.
Doug - as far as the score goes, I've only ever been able to find a Salome score online... never anything else. I would think it would be hard to find this rarity, save for at a major metropolitan library.
I don't know if this can help you, but most adequate university libraries have the complete Strauss edition in their reference collections- I've used them many times for studying the more offbeat scores like this one or Danae and Friedenstag. Interlibrary loans can also help.
Today was the first time this season I deliberetly missed the Saturday broadcast (I missed Faust and Meistersinger, but not on purpose), because I'm seeing it on Wednesday, and I want to go in cold. I've read the libretto, but that's it.
The weird thing is that my library does have a Helena score--I've had it out before. It was just checked out by some other enterprising Saturday listener. There was a blank spot between Fledermaus and Arabella.
Still VERY enjoyable even without following every note.

Just to you let all that that ORF2, an Austrian TV channel, is going to be broadcasting the live premiere of "La Fille du Régiment" from the Wiener Staatsoper. The same production of Laurent Pelly that was performed some months ago at Covent Garden.
Some of you with satellite TV might be able to get this channel. Hope so.
Next to Dessay and Florez, Caballe is playing the "Duchesse".
Forgot to mention: the broadcast starts at 0655PM GMT (London Time)
So, I'm watching the PBS broadcast of Puritani, which we finally got in LA, and I realized something: I don't like Puritani. I don't even Like Bellini. Why am I watching this? So I turned it off.

Thanks for the Bellini Shakespeare. It's been a long time since I've listened to anything from this opera, so it's kind of a nice refresher. I especially like the YouTube clip you posted with Gruberova and Baltsa. Gruberova is less affected than I'm used to (which is great), and Baltsa is fantastic! A nice find. Thanks.
