Avant garde

La Cieca hears that incoming NYCO intendant Gérard Mortier is wasting no time in putting his stamp on the company, even though his tenure is not due to begin until 2009. La Cieca’s source whispers that Mortier is sending Kevin Murphy (currently head of the music staff at Paris) to New York to replace the City Opera’s “entrenched” John Beeson. Kevin Murphy is the husband of Heidi Grant Murphy, who perhaps not coincidentally has been singing a lot in Paris lately, where reportedly she has met with something less than universal acclaim.

Apparently not a topic of huge interest- does this mean that we may look forward to Ms. Heidi G-M
    becoming the new Bubbles?

  • Kathleen says:

Please do not in any way degenerate the lovely and charming singing of Heidi Grant Murphy.

  • Geronimo says:

Gee, Kathleen, a bit paranoid, aren’t we? Where is the slam in what I ask? As Bubbles was the reigning prima donna in this country for 20 years, and based out of City Opera, and this is a status that artist mentioned here has not achieved, I would assume it was possibly a compliment before
swooping in to crush all dissent. How very Bush White House of you. And as to the lovely and charming singing, dear, I’m afraid you’ll have a stroke if you look up past posts here, or in Opera-L. Are you sure you’re not her PR person?

Btw, you should look up the definition of degenerate, and compare it with denigrate……
