Everyone’s so spooked that the Onegins are sold out. Don’t worry. There will be tickets available….
I’m now thinking of going from March 22-25. That way I can catch Gherghiou’s Violetta and Murray Periaha’s recital. I go to NYC so rarely that I have to pack in as many performances as I can. Usually, I just spend my whole time worshipping at the temple (Met).
What is Perahia playing? I think he’s great.
Periaha is playing Chopin’s Fourth Ballade, a Bach Partita and Beethoven’s Sonatas No. 9 + 10. It should be good. He’s such a poet at the piano.
I’m glad to see I’m not the only one trying to match dates to go to NY and Met performances. Fortunately I’m now not limited to weekends. With three 2-day trips I’ll get to see Onegin, Simon, Barber, Helena, Orfeo and the Trittico. Hope some of them are winners.
Yes, Silja is a remarkable artist. If only other singers learned to have a career for at least a good 45 years.The DVD of her Janecek Maropoulos Case is also special while she is the most believable sounding Elsa on record, in that 1962 Bayreuth Lohengrin performance. Loved the ‘clip from the Poulenc ‘Dialogues’. One of the truly great operas of the 20th Century. I had not seen or heard this opera until one night finally in 1988..5 rows from the front of stage. Never had I experienced being physically pinned to the back of a seat, hair brisling, tingles down the spine from the sheer force of sound, the thrills and electricity it generated. At the end, I was the last to leave the audiotorium…10 minutes later. Exhausted, but walking on air! And I had been to a great Die Meistersinger the night before.
