Parterrians may be interested in the 2007/8 season SFO announced today.

Samson and Delilah (Clifton Forbis/Olga Borodina)

Tannhäuser (Peter Seiffert/Petra Maria Schnitzer/Petra Lang)

World premiere of Appomattox by Philip Glass (Dwayne Croft as Robert E. Lee)

    Magic Flute (Rebecca Evans/Erika Miklósa/Piotr Beczala/Christopher Maltman)

    La Rondine (Angela Gheorghiu/Misha Didyk)

    Macbeth (Thomas Hampson/Doina Dimitriu)

    The Rake’s Progress (William Burden/Laura Aikin/Denyce Graves/James Morris)

West Coast premiere of The Little Prince by Rachel Portman (cast TBA)

Das Rheingold (Zambello production from WNO. Mark Delavan/Richard Paul Fink/Jennifer Larmore/Jill Grove/Runnicles conducting)

Ariodante (Susan Graham/Ruth Ann Swenson/Ewa Podle?)

Lucia di Lammermoor (Natalie Dessay/Giuseppe Filianoti)

Not overwhelming, but interesting enough, I guess. Dessay, Gheorghiu, Podle? at least offset Hampson as Macbeth. And maybe Burden will take his shirt off.

Okay, so that means if I get into the San Francisco Conservatory, I am definetly going. What a season. Hamina Hamina Hamina.

Speaking of the Litte Prince, am I the only one who really loves that opera. It’s just so unabashedly lyrical. Here’s hoping San Francisco gets Teddy Tahu Rhodes for the Pilot

I’m delighted — it’s a date I can cross off my list. I couldn’t decided whether to go to one Traviata with Stoyanova or two, and this will make it easier to get into all of them. I was out of the country when she made her Met debut in this role in 2001, and everyone who saw it was knocked out (in the good sense). I assume the Met will pay her for the evening anyway, and she always has the Wiener Staatsoper to fall back on.

  • Cavatina Cabaletta says:

The real question is will she really be singing Violetta the day AFTER she is to sing a solo recital in Florida?

Just an update, Gheorghiu cancelled the recital in Miami! It is a big blow for Judy Drucker because it was also going to raise funds. Guess the MET comes first!
