    Dearest Mrs Claggart,

Your Mara Z entry is beyond FABulous. We need a new adjective for it.

I am looking forward to your next novel…”Mawrdew Czgowchwz Gets Gorgeouser.”

If singers would sing as if they knew what the individual words mean, I think that that would be great progress. The libretto and the music should tell the singers what they need to know about a character. Singers might benefit from a little bit of historical research, but I don’t think that they really need to do much (or that many of them would do much research). Sets and costumes often bear little connection to historical accuracy, and many productions are “updated” to different centuries. An opera has to succeed on its own terms, not as a recreation of a novel or of history.

some other nick names for singers (in addition to Montsterfat Cowbelly)(I did not make these up)

    Drone Slumberland
    Lemontyne Pledge
    Dame Granite Baker
    Pigarotti
    Anna Tomato Sandwich
    Sylvester (troyanos)
Frick and Frack (Caballe and Carreras)

    “Sylvester (troyanos)”

Okay, I’m stupid. I get the rest but I don’t understnad this one.

  • NYCOQ says:

Sylvester was a black gay disco singer who sang in falsetto. I guess the reference has to do with the whole trouser role thing. He was a gender illusionist as well.

  • Michael Farris says:

Okay, I actually (just barely) remember that Sylvester (I think I may have even had an album by him which I played exactly once) but thought it couldn’t be a reference to him.

My favorite nickname on the list are Granite Baker (she’s just that exciting!) but Anna Tomato Sandwich is pretty funny too.

What about our own Maury d’onato – that one always makes me laugh- and the pic is perfect- deserves an award :)

If you’re experimenting with animation software, and including YouTube videos here, then you really out to spread the word a little farther.

I noticed you don’t have any social bookmarklets on your blog. You might want to add some to give others a chance to bookmark your blog with some of the social bookmarking services.

There are free plug-ins available for blogger. Additionally I wrote a package to do the same. You can find it here if you’re interested. http://www.tagplusbookmarks.com

    Best of Luck to you,

All those singers on the pun list sang the music of Big Joe Green too.
