Fritz Wonder Lick? Adelina Kaupatti? My Cousin Vinay?

  • CALLASORPHAN says:

And how could we forget Jessie Normous?

The first time I heard that one, I spewed and choked at the same time. Nearly died.

  • CALLASORPHAN says:

yes rysanekfreak, that is so funny. It reminds me of when Jane Egland sang Norma. I read somewhere something to the effect that–”Jane Eglan, last night sang her first Enorma.”

There has to be a pun about that great speaking actor Werner Klemperer doing Klinksor, but I don’t want to type it for cyberspace.

  • ljc says:

Many decades ago there must have been truckloads of puns about Clara Butt, so I don’t have an original one. There was one critic who so hated Nordica that he never referred to her as anything but “that woman from Maine.”

  • ljc says:

OK, I forgot the Disney cartoon character, Dame Clara Cluck.

We use to call her Jesse Enormous or Jesse Norma Desmond after she did Makrapolous Affair.

Those of a certain UN PC era will remember The Darkie at the Top of the Stairs, La Schwartze del destino, and a singer called The Toilet by so many standees that it used to take me a few seconds to think of her name. Then there was Pigoletta, known to extras and chorus backstage.
