The people have spoken!

Here are the results of La Cieca's informal and utterly unscientific poll of her readers, asking "Who should replace Lorraine Hunt Lieberson in the Met's production of Orfeo?" As you can see, a large plurality favored Ewa Podles, with David Daniels and Susan Graham also receiving numerous votes.

Ewa Podles has about as much chance of becoming a star at Mr. Gelb's Met as she does of flying to the moon, unaided.

Is it possible that the Met has tried to get Podles back, but she has negative feelings about being treated as Marilyn Horne's "Rinaldo" understudy all those years ago? With just one "Rinaldo" performance to her credit in the Met annals?

I would like to think that for years Volpe was waving a contract at her, but her attitude was "I don't need the Met as much as the Met needs me."
