La Cieca has just learned that Erika Sunnegardh will sing tomorrow’s Fidelio broadcast, replacing Karita Mattila, who is under the weather.

Isn’t it true that US opera houses have never been able to compete fee wise because European opera houses receive larger government subsidies. the US government does not support art to the same extent.american art institutions have to be much more self-supporting.

Dooley was quite active at the Met back in the 60′s and 70′s, mainly in the German repertoire. Elektra, Frau, Tristan, Dutchman, Fidelio, etc. He also did Scarpia and my recollection is that he was in the Met premiere of Les Dialogues des Carmelites.
