Gli enigmi sono due
Which veteran Met star had his nose buried so deep in his score that he collided clumsily with a chorister at a final rehearsal? The low-voiced divo erupted in threats, but calmed down soon enough when he realized that he was yelling at the AGMA Rep!
Which soprano now has a large hole in her schedule half a year hence after canceling a bel canto role debut? She’s been replaced by a considerate colleague who fortunately had a coordinating hole in her schedule (though, unfortunately, rather an unpleasant hole in her voice as well.)
Sorry, I’m new. I’m (obviously) an opera freak and I don’t live in the US.
Marsha,
I would would prefer to read theinterpolator’s posts that your relentless, off-topic promotion of that has-been studio confection Cheryl Studer! How did she get into this discussion?
Seriously, Marshie. This one wasn’t even in English. If you insist on posting unrelated reviews of Cheryl Studer, at least translate them into English!

Cheryl Studer, a legend in León
by Miguel Ãngel Nepomuceno
“Although we had to wait a few months for her reappearance, it was worth it. Last night the impeccable voice of the Northamerican soprano Cheryl Studer filled the symphonic hall with some of the arias that have turned her into a living legend of singing and one of the most sought after sopranos by the great Wagnerian houses from Bayreuth to the Metropolitan, from Munich to La Scala. In all of them and for over thirty years in roles such as Elsa in Lohengrin, Elisabeth in Tanhaüsser, or Pamina in the Magic Flute, she has left her imprint as superlative singer and excellent acress. Before a public little versed in Wagnerian singing, or Strauss or Barber, and accompanied with excellence by pianist Jonathan Alder, the soprano surpassed herself in the Wesendonck Lieder by Wagner and poured lyricism and depth in Allerseelen, Seidem dein Aug and Befreit by Strauss, where she demonstrated once again that, along with Waltraud Meier, she is one of the best recitalists of the moment. Grandiose recital offered last night.”
ok, interpolator, I heard one of Rancatore’s Olympias at the Bastille. I could hear her very well. The stage decoration was very “open” which led to the fact that many of the singers couldn’t be heard properly.
However, Rancatore’s voice to my ears was sounding brilliant and crystal clear.
I shouldn’t have asked.
And, by the by, since you asked you ought to know that the review is dated —12 March 2006—, as published in http://www.diariodeleon.es
Basically, what I’m asking, Marschallian, is for you to stop posting Cheryl Studer reviews. Now, we all understand that you’re practically in love in with artist, and that’s understandable. But They’re unrelated to the topics and hand and what’s worse, you find it necessary to post them in every active forum. Why? If you must post a review, could you at least limit it to one forum?
have gli enigmi been solved?
Oh no! Let me guess, I shouldn’t have asked.

I own the EMI DVD from Barcelona with Dessay and Keenlyside in Hamlet, It is awesome. Dessay sings and acts the best “Mad Scene†that I’ve ever witnessed with wrist cutting and all. Keenlyside is phenomenal. He too gives a demented performance. He sings poor depressed Hamlet wonderfully. The “confrontation scene” with Uria-Monzon (as his mother) is fantastic! The DVD is one of my most prized possessions.
